Announcing BOTE 2010
Hosted by: Runaway Proton
Date: Saturday Aug 7, 2010 8pm EST
After hosting the BOTE 2007 game, I’ve always had the desire to run another tournament and run it better. Call me a sucker for punishment.
I attempted to host the game again in 2008 but didn’t understand the tradition of this game, and didn’t follow it, nor did I establish the traditional permission from MacAhan. I didn’t understand it was needed. I attempted to right these wrongs quickly, but I was unable to get things lined up to host.
In November 2009 I had an ICQ conversation with MacAhan and established his permission to run a traditional BOTE game in 2010. His requests to keep it traditional will be honored.
Game settings will be those used in the 2003 game with the exception that there will be no delays turned on and navhaz cleanup is set to 100%. If the setting is not specifically mentioned here you can assume that the setting is stock.

Teams: Number of corporations will depend on how many TWGS code holders send a team to play. Each code holder can send one team of up to 6 players each. Players will have 8 days to enter the game. Any players not logged in after 8 days, will be unable to play. Once a team member logs in there will be no substitutions. I’ll be recording IP addresses of players when they start.
Game rules will also be roughly the same traditional rules used in 2003
http://tradewars.fament.com/bote2003/index.php?a=rules which read:
• Only 1 (one) team from each BBS and/or TWGS server. (Only using TWGS Servers)
• There will be no allies or corping between teams from different BBSes allowed. Have truces if you want. But remember truces are for players that are afraid. (Not using this rule as players no longer come from a single BBS)
• No transfer of traders or resources between the different BBS (TWGS) teams. If your teams quits on you, you will have to keep playing alone and if the entire team quits for any reason you cannot give your resource over to a different team.
• After the game has started no team can replace any of its traders with a replacement. So if one trader has to withdraw from the game his team will have to continue without him.
• 6 deaths/pods then you’re out of the game. So when you get #SD# with >6 deaths/pods you cannot reenter the game again and your team will have to continue without you.
• Is it considered a bug? Could it be considered a bug? Then don't use it but rather report the bug.
• If something could possibly be mistaken for breaking of the rules above then this must with in 24hrs be reported to the game-op (quickets by using provided contact information for the gameop) this must be accompanied with captures/logs as proof.
• Request of disqualification must be turned in within 24hrs to the gameop. Proof must be supplied in forms of screen captures and/or logs from the system.
• No time, life resources or anything will be given back for ANY reason. If a bug hit you figure out what and why and report it to gameop so he can help you report it to John Pritchett or report it directly to John yourself.
• NO account sharing. If a player can't play he will have to make sure his team mates can protect him without using his account.
• I don't care if you script. I don't care if you attempt to play 24/7. If you think you have to play like a chicken and be online 24/7 because you can't protect yourself from others in any other way so be it.
• Whine and complain on how someone is playing or acting and your guaranteed to end up on my ignore/AnimalDung list. If you think that only way you can get my attention is to bring a complaint into a public forum and discredit me or the server expect to get your account on the server suspended. This is one of the toughest and most prestige full game of the year if you can't handle it then go back to playing StarCraft and Diablo 2 and use your hacks to gain your powers.
I’m adding the following rule(s) with MacAhan’s knowledge and permission.
• No buyouts or continually running scripts with the sole purpose of keeping another player out of the game, make resources unavailable, or hamper server performance.
I reserve the right to change or alter any of these rules up until the game starts.
I also want to establish a way to arbitrate violations. I see two options:
Option 1. Set up a council of non-playing but respected members of the community, myself, and maybe 3-4 others, to oversee the game and it’s play. They will have no access to the server, I alone have that, but we will discuss violations brought to our attention, determine if it was indeed a violation, and determine appropriate action to be taken. If this council is established, it’s decision is final!
Option 2. Set up a single respected player other than myself who is willing to hear all grievances and make a ruling. This arbitrator will not have sponsored a team and what this single arbitrator says will be a final decision, and I the sysop will make the changes he requests.
